This is not actually a fern, but a cycad in the Stangeriaceae family

They are one of the smallest cycads, and grow in rainforests between Tully and the McIlwraith Range on Cape York Peninsula.
These cycads have an interesting relationship with weevils, which help polinate the plant. Weevils live in the male plant, and are discouraged from the female plant, by means of a strong toxic substances. The weevils lay their eggs on the cones and feed on the plant. The odour of the female plants entice the pollin covered weevils to the plant, thereby pollinating it.
Zamia ferns usually produce seed between January and June.
