The largest species of cycad, growing to over 15 metres in height.
This is a spectacular cycad and is endemic to Queensland and prefers shady, moist positions in rainforest.
A number of great examples of this impressive plant can be found north of the Daintree River. One is easily accessible on the Jindalba Boardwalk, near the Daintree Discovery Centre.
As with all cycads, plants are either male or female. Female plants produce cones with seeds and males produce cones with pollen.
