More closely related to the Australian magpie, Black Butherbirds are proficient hunters and nest raiders.
Found in coastal rainforests of tropical northern Australia they are a common bird in the Daintree.
They have a distinctive call often described as honking however it has a very melodic sound.
They hunt silently making their way through the dense rainforest, hunting many different types of prey including insects, frogs, lizards and other birds. They commonly raid other nests and many lost broods of smaller birds can be attributed to them.
