They naturally occur in northern Australia, south-east Asia, the Philippines, Fiji and India. They resemble the typical "Christmas beetles" more well known in southern Australia, except they tend to be larger, and are a brown colour with mottled cream patches.

They are also known as the Asian mango flower beetle due to their liking to the mango flowers where they cause some damage to crop.

They will also feed on fallen or damaged fruit, including citrus and tropical fruits like paw paw and mango.

In some parts of the world they are considered a pest species due to the damage they can do to crops in when in large numbers.
