A large, spectacularly coloured fruit dove found in tropical north Queensland and into New Guinea.
They feed on fruit, particularly figs, palm fruit and Ylang-Ylang.
Although they are brightly coloured and large, they are very well camouflaged and often difficult to spot in the rainforest.
The Wompoo call is very distinctive, and as they are usually quite illusive, this is often a great way to find them. It is a deep throated "Wollockwoo" or "Wompoo" sound. Click here to hear recordings of their call
