It is most easily recognised by its "fan shaped" tail and its habit of swishing the tail back and forth while it flits from branch to brach searching for insects.

It has a grey back and light grey or even pale yellow undersides and a white throat. it also has white markings over the eye and white edged tail.

The nest is small, neat and cup shaped made from plant material (moss and bark) and situated in the fork of a tree.

Its aerobatic antics are impressive as it catches insects in flight.
